In 2015, I stood alone as the whistleblower who exposed Victorian Labor’s corrupt use of almost $400,000 of taxpayers’ money to get Dan Andrews elected in a matter which has come to be known as the “Red Shirts” scandal.
By speaking out I ruined any future I had within Victorian Labor and the union movement, but in the process I had stayed true to what had been instilled into me by both my mother and the union movement - that you should never be afraid to speak up and hold power to account.
Since 2015, Dodgy Dan’s true nature has been on full display to the Victorian public, with the Premier using every trick learned through his lifelong career as a Socialist Left backroom operator and factional warlord to avoid being held accountable for his actions, often by throwing the unwitting dupes doing his bidding under the bus.
Victoria's chief integrity officer, IBAC Commissioner Robert Redlich QC, stated publicly in June that it “... can never be acceptable that a government has thrown a large amount of money at something because it will benefit the political party,” yet Dan Andrews has managed to avoid repercussions for his continued misuse of taxpayers' money to benefit himself and those within his inner circle.
Not only did Dan Andrews and Victorian Labor corruptly use almost $400,000 to win the 2014 Victorian state election, but they spent in excess of a further $1 million of our money on legal fees when they went all the way to the High Court to challenge the Victorian Ombudsman's authority to investigate their corrupt conduct.
When the time came to make arrests in the Red Shirts matter in August 2018, Victoria Police, led by then-Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton (who was appointed by Dan Andrews) and now-Assistant Commissioner Brett Curran (who was formerly Chief of Staff to Dan Andrews), elected to arrest myself and sixteen other staffers rather than the architects of the scheme, the Premier, and other ministers and MPs who had employed field organisers on their campaigns, and allowing the only witness who had willingly co-operated with every investigation into the matter and happened to be willing to give evidence against their former boss who was Police Minister at the time to be subjected a humiliating strip-search before being held for questioning without a lawyer present.
